Clear bra installer IN FORT WORTH, TX

A clear bra is paint protection film on the front of the car, the part that takes most of the rock chips. The film is clear, so the paint color and gloss still show through.

Clear bra and PPF: the same film

Clear bra and paint protection film are two names for the same product: a clear urethane film applied over the paint to help absorb rock chips and resist light scratches. “Clear bra” is usually what people say when they mean film on the front end.

So if you searched for a clear bra, the real decision is how much of the front end to cover. Our paint protection film page explains the film and every package. This page is about the front end.

Partial or full front

Partial front or full front: which one fits

A full front covers the hood, front bumper, fenders and mirrors. Those panels face the traffic ahead, so they collect most of the stones thrown up by other cars.

A partial front covers less of the front end and costs less to install. Shops don’t define it the same way, so ask for the panel list in writing with your quote and compare it line by line against any other quote.

The trade-off is simple: any paint outside the film can still chip. If most of your miles are on the highway, the full front closes more of those gaps. Either way, film helps with chips and light scratches. It won’t stop dents.

How long a clear bra install takes

Plan on about one day for a partial front and two to three days for a full front.

The full front takes longer because there’s more to do: more panels to prep, more edges to finish, and mirrors to cover. Most of the time goes into prep and edge work. The paint has to be clean and free of wax or polish residue before any film is applied.

When to go past a clear bra

Edges are where front-end film shows its limits. Film can be wrapped around a panel edge, which hides the cut line, or finished on the face of the panel, where you may see the line up close. Wrapping needs extra material and a panel shape that allows it, so not every edge can be wrapped. Ask which edges on your car will be.

If you’d rather have film past the front end, on the doors, rear bumper and the rest of the body, look at full body PPF. If you are buying a new car, PPF for a new car covers when to put film on. And before you book anywhere, how to spot a bad PPF job shows what to check on finished film.

Ceramic coating and clear bra

A common setup is a clear bra on the front end and ceramic coating on the rest of the car. Coating is a far thinner layer than film, so it doesn’t stop rock chips, but it makes the uncovered panels easier to wash.
